Holy Week commences in Enniskillen with a performance of Stainer's Crucifixion


A large crowd gathered in the Cathedral Church of St Macartin, Enniskillen on the evening of Palm Sunday, 1st April 2012, for a presentation of John Stainer’s oratorio The Crucifixion by Armagh City Choir. The event marked the beginning of a number of services which will take place in the Cathedral during Holy Week and Easter.

The choir were directed by Adrian Brunton and accompanied on the Cathedral’s three manual Connacher Organ by organist Joe McKee. Soloists included Michael Bell (Tenor), Patrick Sweeney (Baritone) and Brian McAlea (Bass).

The Crucifixion, a meditation on the Sacred Passion of the Holy Redeemer, was composed in 1887 and was first performed on 24th February 1887, the day after Ash Wednesday.
