Archdeacon Ruddell Prize and Bishop’s Medal 2012

Clogher Diocesan Board of Religious Education invites children and young people to enter the following competitions. Rectors and Sunday School Superintendents have copies of the relevant entry forms – please contact them for more details. Prizes are usually awarded at Diocesan Synod in September. Note: Entry forms are also available by clicking on the appropriate links on this page.


Archdeacon Ruddell Prize 2012

  1. Describe and explain your understanding of the following three miracles:
     - Feeding the 5000 (St Mark 6 v 30-44)
     - Jairus’ Daughter (St Mark 5 v 21-43)
     - The Paralysed Man (St Mark 2 v 1-12)

  2. Write a prayer on the topic of healing.

This competition is open to children of primary school age and can be either an individual or group entry.
The sections and miracles should be covered in the order given above.
All entries must be original, the work of those entering and can be either hand written or word processed. Relevant pictures, diagrams, photographs etc can be included.
The total length should be within the range 1500 – 2000 words and should be on A4 paper.
No reference should be made to the parish to which the entrants belong.

Bishop’s Medal 2012

  1. There are many translations of the Bible today but we have recently celebrated the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. Explain how the King James Version of the Bible came into being.

  2. In dealing with the topic of miracles in the Bible, explain your understanding of one Old Testament miracle of your own choice, and the following three New Testament miracles:
     - Feeding the 5000 (St Mark 6 v 30-44)
     - Jairus’ Daughter (St Mark 5 v 21-43)
     - The Paralysed Man (St Mark 2 v 1-12)
  (i.e. 4 miracles in total)

  3. Compose a prayer on the topic of healing.

This competition is open to young people of secondary school age and must be an individual entry.
The sections and miracles should be covered in the order given above.
All entries must be original, the work of those entering and must be word processed.

The total length should be within the range 2500 – 3000 words and should be on A4 paper.
