Fermanagh Choral Society to take part in Famine Service

 

A Service of Commemoration for The Great Famine of 1845-1852 will take place in St Mary's Church, Magheraculmoney Parish, ARDESS near Kesh in Co. Fermanagh on Thursday 6th September 2012 at 7.30pm. The service will be led by the rector of the parish, The Revd Henry Blair, and will feature a range of music performed by Fermanagh Choral Society, which will be conducted by Don Swain and accompanied by Irene Kernohan. The Choral Society will perform music by Gibbons, Mozart, Walford Davies, and Rutter to name a few.

During the service two young soloists, Julia Frazer and Leah Buchanan, will give solo performances. Leah will perform the well-known setting of the 23rd Psalm as arranged by Howard Goodall and Julia will sing Fauré's setting of Pie Jesu. The congregational singing will be led by Ardess Church Choir and organist, Glenn Moore.

Mrs Dorothy Pendry will give a historical reflection, and a special talk will be presented by Miss Kate Doherty. Set in the context of a Late Evening Office the service, which has been organized by Ardess Community Association, will be the conclusion to a number of activities taking place during the day in commemoration of the Irish Famine.
