The service is the culmination of five year’s work in the local area, initiated by the Select Vestry in Lisbellaw when the project started with 99 names on two memorial stones in Lisbellaw and Derryvullan Churches and a desire to tell the stories of those who had served in the First World War, as well as all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the parish, irrespective of their denomination.

The Service of the Word for the commemoration of the end of the First World War will have a special focus on those who served and returned from the Great War. Early on it was decided that there was more that could be done to tell the stories of all those from the local area who were involved in the First World War.

Many of the families will be represented at this special Service. The Service of the Word for the Commemoration of the end of the First World War is open to all and it is hoped it will be a fitting tribute to all those took part in Great War from the wider Lisbellaw area.

The project also saw the launch of the book, 'The Stories Behind The Stones - Lisbellaw and the Great War' featuring 194 men and three women fro the Lisbellaw area who served in the First World War.
