Clogher Diocesan Mothers' Union took part in the 16 days of Activism against Gender-based Violence All Ireland Prayer Vigil. The Vigil was held in the Hillard Room in the Cathedral Hall Enniskillen from 3.00-5.00pm on 28th November.
A Representative from Christian Aid gave a very interesting account of abuse of women world wide and especially in Africa. This was followed by a representative from Ardstraw against trafficking and he gave us a thought provoking account of women being trafficked across Europe and especially in Northern Ireland. Finally a representative from the local Women's Aid Centre gave us an insight into how they help women and children escape from abusive relationships.
Mrs Valerie McMorris, the Faith & Policy Co-ordinator welcomed everyone to the event. Dr Margaret Knox, the Diocesan President led the opening prayers, confession and intercessions; Mrs Margaret Crawford read a Psalm; and Mrs Diane Whittaker did the readings. It was very encouraging to have our local MP, Mr Tom Elliott at the event. Mrs Irene Boyd, President-elect gave a vote of thanks.
Although the event was not very well attended, those that were there expressed their appreciation on how informative the event was and expressed an interest in having the speakers at branch meetings to hear more about their work.
