Mothering Sunday in the Galloon Group

There was a real sense of family and community spirit in Newtownbutler Church as the three parishes came together for a Group Mothering Sunday Service. The combined Sunday Schools took part along with Mother's Union members.

The lessons were read by Heather Kettyle, Eileen Hall and Myrtle Allen with the duet of Roisin Kerr (harp) and Grace Kettyle (violin) playing verses of "I am the Lord of the Dance" before, between and after the readings.

The prayers were lead by Elizabeth Johnston, Hazel Robinson and Joan Wiggins.

The combined Sunday School choir sang two pieces: "God loves you" and the "Thank you song". The latter had been specially adapted for the occasion by Grace Rickey who along with Joyce Clingan played and conducted the children.

Revd Anita narrated a sketch in between the two Sunday School pieces called "When God made Mothers" and she was ably assisted by three "willing" volunteers: Holly Hutchinson, Christine Bell and Siobhan Kerr who were all "dressed" for the occasion.

The children then presented handcrafted flowers to all the ladies present which had been made in Sunday School.

The collection at the service will go towards the Mothers' Union "Make a Mother's Day" Appeal to buy a Mothering Sunday Gift which will transform a life.

Refreshments were served after the service.

A special thanks to everyone who help with the preparations, participated in and put together our special Mothering Sunday Service and in particular, The Rev Anita for her leadership, inspiration and willingness to get as many people involved as possible.
