CDBRE Bishop's Medal and Archdeacon Ruddell Prize - Competitions 2013

 

Clogher Diocesan Board of Religious Education invites children and young people to enter the following competitions. Rectors and Sunday School Superintendents have copies of the relevant entry forms - please contact them for more details. Alternatively click on links below to print off forms in pdf format. Prizes are usually awarded at Diocesan Synod in September.

Archdeacon Ruddell Prize 2013
1. Write about and illustrate your understanding of 5 of your favourite hymns/songs, choosing one each from five of the following six categories:
- a hymn of praise
- a hymn of prayer
- a hymn of thanksgiving
- a hymn of creation
- a hymn of hope and trust
- a hymn of the church's seasons

The hymns chosen should be included in your project in the order given above.
All entries must be original, the work of those entering and must be hand written. Please include a copy of the words of the hymns chosen (these do not have to be handwritten) and the name of the book they are taken from e.g. Church Hymnal, Mission Praise.
Illustrations must be the work of those entering the competition.
Entries should be on A4 paper.
No reference should be made to the parish to which the entrants belong.

This competition is open to children of primary school age and can be either an individual or group entry.



Bishop's Medal 2013
1. Explain your understanding of 5 psalms, choosing one each from five of the following six categories:
- Psalm 95 a psalm of praise
- Psalm 23 the Shepherd's psalm
- Psalm 121 a prayer for help
- Psalm 19 a psalm about creation
- Psalm 100 a joyous psalm
- Psalm 46 a psalm of hope and trust

2. Write a short hymn or psalm of praise (words only, no music required)

The psalms should be included in your project in the order given above.
All entries must be original, the work of those entering and must be handwritten. Please include a copy of the words of the psalms chosen (these do not have to be handwritten)
Relevant pictures, diagrams, photographs etc can be included.
The length of each explanation should be within the range 200 - 300 words.
Entries should be on A4 paper.
No reference should be made to the parish to which the entrant belongs.

This competition is open to young people of secondary school age and must be an individual entry.


All entries for both competitions should be either left in the diocesan office or sent to the CDBRE secretary: Joyce Clingan, 37 Meadow Farm, Garvary, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, BT74 4QS, by Wednesday 19th June 2013 please.
