Celebrating 125 years of Mothers' Union in Ireland

A joint Service was held in Derryvullen North Parish Church on 14th October 2012 to celebrate 125 years of Mothers' Union in Ireland. The special speaker was Mrs Ruth Mercer, All Ireland President MU. Mrs Geraldine Beattie, Clogher Diocesan President was also present.

Two new members, Mrs Sadie McKenzie and Mrs Pearl Carleton were enrolled. Mrs Eileen Bleakley, Branch Leader presented the candidates and also read the Lesson, 1 John 4 v 7-12. Prayers were lead by Dr Margaret Knox. An added inspiration for the Service was a Baptism conducted by Rev Canon Glenn West, Rector.

Following the Service, refreshments were served in the Parish Hall by the MU members. In the Hall there was an exhibition of MU work in Ireland and overseas. Mrs Mercer was very impressed with the knitted articles and trauma teddies for the Hospital, also emergency overnight bags for Women's Aid; and a pictorial record of the Branch, compiled by Mrs Winnie Irvine.

Mrs Eileen Bleakley presented Mrs Mercer with a cheque and a beautiful orchid; Mrs Mercer suitably replied.

A cheque for £260 was sent to MU Projects at home and overseas.
