There was a joyous occasion in Clogher Diocese with the ordination of Revd Sarah Maguire as Deacon in St. Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen on 31 May.
Previously Revd Maguire, a member of Rossorry Parish Church, was a Diocesan Reader.

Following her ordination as a Deacon Ordained Local Minister, Revd Maguire will continue to serve alongside Revd Stephen McWhirter at Rossorry until her ordination as a priest in a year’s time.
The Rite of Ordination was conducted by Bishop Ian Ellis and others taking part in the service were Dean Kenneth Hall and Archdeacon Paul Thompson.
The first reading was by Mr John Cowan, a brother of Revd Maguire; the second reading by Clare Donohoe, a friend and the third reading, the Gospel reading by Revd Dr. Edwin Aiken, Vicar at St. Macartin’s Cathedral.
The sermon was preached by Revd Stephen McWhirter, Rector of Rossorry Parish.
The hymns were; “To God be the glory!” “Take my life,” “Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty” and “Pour out thy spirit from on high.” The singing was led by the Cathedral Choir and the organist was Mr. Glenn Moore.
A large congregation gathered for the occasion with many parishioners from Rossorry Parish and other parishes throughout the Diocese where Revd Maguire has served as Diocesan Reader.
Revd Maguire grew up in Slavin Parish, near Belleek and spent a career in the health service before firstly becoming a Parish Reader and the licensed as a Diocesan Reader in October 2024.
Following the service, a supper was served in the Cathedral Hall where Revd Maguire thanked all those who had supported her during her years of training including her husband, Jimmy and other family members.
