The annual Ecumenical Prayer Service for Pentecost took place at St. Macartan’s Church, known as the Forth Chapel near Augher on Sunday, 24 May.

The service was led by the two Bishops of Clogher, the Right Revd Dr. Ian Ellis, Church of Ireland and the Most Revd Larry Duffy, Roman Catholic Church.

Also taking part were Canon Noel McGahan of St. Macartan’s Church and Canon Johnny McLoughlin, Rural Dean in Clogher Diocese.

The hymns included “Spirit of the Living God,” “All over the World,” and “Walk in the Light.” The singing was led by the Tullymeadow Singers from the Clogher Valley.

The readings were by Canon McGahan and Canon McLoughlin and the address was given by Bishop Ian Ellis.

Two young people from schools in the area, Georgia Wilson, a member of St. John’s Parish, Fivemiletown and Tiernan Gartlan from St. Macartan’s Church, read reflections on Pentecost.

The service was held outdoors and afterwards tea was served inside the church which won the title, “Church of the Year” at the inaugural National Church Awards in London in 2022 after completing a Windows Restoration Project. The stained-glass windows from the Clark and Sons Studio in Dublin were installed in 1922.
