New Diocesan Reader licensed for serving in Clogher Diocese

A special Service of Holy Communion on the occasion of the Admission and Licensing of Mr Robert Watterson as Diocesan Reader, has taken place in Mullaghdun Parish Church near Letterbreen.

The Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd Dr. Ian Ellis led the service and was assisted by Revd Canon Jen McWhirter, Rector and Revd Canon Lorraine Capper, Warden of Readers, who also preached the sermon.

During the service, the hymns were; “To God be the Glory,” “What a Friend we have in Jesus,” “Amazing Grace” “Just as I am,” and “Guide me, O thou great Jehovah.” The organist was Mrs Joan Brownlee.

The collection was taken up for the Diocesan Ministry Fund.

The First Reading was by Mr. Andrew Humphreys and the Gospel reading was by Canon Lorraine Capper, who also preached.

The Prayers of the People were led by Mr Robert Watterson.

Mr Watterson who has served as Parish Reader for many years, was joined at the service by his wife, Caroline and other family members and friends.

At supper in the Church Hall after the service, Lord Tom Elliott of Ballinamallard spoke on behalf of Magheracross Parish where Robert Watterson had spent his placement. He thanked him for his contribution to services in Ballinamallard and wished him well as he now serves as Diocesan Reader across Clogher Diocese.

Robert thanked everyone involved for making this a memorable day for him and his family, for Bishop Ian for his help and encouragement, Canon Jen for supporting him and Canon Capper for taking him on for his placement. He thanked the Mullaghdun catering team for providing a lovely supper and to organist, Joan Brownlee and churchwardens for their contribution during the service.

Bishop Ian concluded the speeches by welcoming Robert to the Diocesan Readers' team and said Mullaghdun had given the Diocese a gift of Robert.
