Killeevan Church to bring ‘Joy to the World’

 


Launching the Killeevan Parish Christmas Tree Festival from 12-14 December are some organisers.

Killeevan Christmas Tree Festival near Clones, Co. Monaghan will take place this weekend in their picturesque church.

The Festival opens at Killeevan Parish Church at midday on Friday, 12 December when guest speaker is Heather Humphreys, former Minister for Social Protection of Ireland with the theme of the Festival; “Joy to the World.” The opening event will also feature Killeevan National School Children’s Choir.

Visitors will be able to visit the Festival over the weekend of Friday, 12 December from 12 noon to 9pm; Saturday, 13 December from 10am to 8pm and on Sunday, 14 December from 12 noon to 6pm.

Apart from more than 50 decorated trees adorning the church, there are other activities in the church hall across the road including a craft stall, lots of home bakes and refreshments as well as local artistes including the Elliott family providing entertainment. There is also a Santa’ Grotto and a history talk and tour of the 170-year-old church.

The final section of the Festival on the Sunday evening will feature Ballyreagh Silver Band playing at a Carol Service at which the Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd Dr. Ian Ellis will preach.

The Christmas trees included in the Festival have been provided by parishioners as well as local businesses and organisations from over a large area of Co. Monaghan.

Funds generated from the Festival will go to Crocus Cancer Support charity as well as Killeevan Church, where renovations have been ongoing in recent months. Crocus Cancer Support provides care for those undergoing cancer treatment, counselling and reflexology.
