A new Diocesan Secretary has been appointed in Clogher Diocese.

She is Miss Joyce Clingan, who has just taken early retirement as Principal of Queen Elizabeth II Primary School, Kilskeery and is already familiar with many people across the diocese as Chair of the Clogher Diocesan Board of Religious Education.

Joyce, who takes up her new post in October, succeeds Mr. Glenn Moore, who has taken on a new part-time role as Diocesan Advisor.

The post of Diocesan Secretary manages the administrative service to the Bishop, the Diocesan Synod and the Diocesan Council in support of the Church’s ministry.

Joyce is a parishioner of Sallaghy Parish Church where she is a church organist and member of the Select Vestry as well as the Freewill Offering Secretary. She is also a former Sunday School Superintendent.

Joyce has been teaching for 36 years, with early years spent teaching at Portstewart Primary School and Hezlett Primary School, Castlerock and for most of her career in Kilskeery where she has been Principal for the past 28 years.

In Clogher Diocese, Joyce is Treasurer of the Clogher Diocesan Board of Mission and Chair of the Clogher Diocesan Board of Religious Education and also served on the former Diocesan J1 Youth Council. She previously served as the Diocesan representative on the Church of Ireland Youth Department and is currently a member of the Diocesan Review Committee. She is a member of both Diocesan Synod and General Synod.

Joyce has other interests outside church work including stewarding at the Fermanagh Show and she enjoys a range of craft hobbies including embroidery and calligraphy. Joyce enjoys attending the theatre and watching movies and is a keen homebaker.

Bishop Ian Ellis has commented: “I am delighted with the appointment of Miss Joyce Clingan as our new Diocesan Secretary; she will bring superb professional skills and experience of working with a school community along with an understanding of wider church life through her various volunteer roles. I look forward to working closely with Joyce in her new position”.
