A second person from Clogher Diocese has been ordained.

Revd Peter Booth originally from Ardess Parish, has been ordained presbyter for the curacy of the LAMP group of churches (Lecale).

Bishop David McClay from the Diocese of Down and Dromore ordained Peter along with five others at a service in Down Cathedral on Sunday 15 June 2025. The preacher was Revd Paul Harcourt, Vicar of All Saints' Woodford Wells in Essex.

Peter served his internship as a deacon in the parishes of Castle Archdale and Derryvullen North, in the Diocese of Clogher under the rector, the Venerable Paul Thompson, and he thanked him and the parishioners for their warm welcome and invaluable support throughout the busy year.

Peter said;“The year brought many challenges, particularly trying to balance family life, employment, study, pastoral duties and church activities. However, under the experienced and wise guidance of Archdeacon Paul, I was provided with excellent and timely opportunities to gain insights into the administration and pastoral workings of rural church ministry. His mentorship has been an immense blessing on my overall journey towards being ordained presbyter.

“My family and I are very excited about the prospect of joining you all in LAMP and the wider diocese of Down and Dromore. We have watched from afar what God has done in and through you over the years and are humbled that He has called my family and I to be part of growing His Kingdom in this part of the island of Ireland.”

Revd Peter Booth will now be part of a team led by the Dean of Down Cathedral, the Very Revd. Henry Blair.
