Scouting the subject at Ardess Historical Society meeting

Maurice Lee, President of Fermanagh Scout Council, was the guest speaker at the November monthly meeting of Ardess Historical Society.

The Society's Chairman, Trevor Ewing, extended a very warm welcome to Maurice and invited him to give a presentation on his recent Publication "Scouting in Fermanagh"

Maurice commenced by outlining his lifetime involvement in the "Scouting Movement" and the formation of the 1st Magheraculmoney Scout Group.

Then followed a powerpoint presentation of Scouting since the early 1910s in Fermanagh. Within the presentation details were given on the formation of a Scout Troop in 1927 by the Revd Robert Scott with 20 boys in Ardess. Photographs were also shown of the Scouts taking part in their activities in the 1940's and 1950's.

Maurice also gave details of the address given by Bishop Richard Tyner (former Fermanagh Scout President) at a Scout and Guide Service held in Ardess in 1947, which was attended by over 400 people.

Many of those who attended the meeting had personal knowledge of the Scouts involved in the photographs. In fact one had been a member of Irvinestown Scouts in the 1950's and Maurice was able to provide a photograph of him as a young Scout from the book.

After the presentation, Trevor Ewing expressed thanks to Maurice for his most interesting and informative presentation. The evening concluded with light refreshments.

Copies of the Book were on sale in aid of Charity.
