One of the most picturesque churches in Clogher Diocese, Holy Trinity Parish Church, Cooneen, near Fivemiletown, will be hosting the “Follow The Star” Christmas Tree Festival this weekend. The Festival marks the 150th anniversary of the church.
The Festival runs from Friday to Sunday, 6 to 8 December 2024 opening on Friday from 10am to 9pm; Saturday from 10am to 9pm and Sunday from 2pm to 7pm. A Santa’s Grotto will be open on Saturday from 12 Noon to 6pm.
Refreshments will be available in the Parish Hall adjacent where there will also be a craft/gift stall.
The Carol Service will take place on Sunday evening at 7.30pm.
Cooneen Church was endowed by a bequest of Revd Butler Brooke, who died on 14th November 1869, and is buried in the Brooke family plot in St Ronan’s Church, Colebrooke. The foundation stone was laid by his widow, Mrs Letitia Jane Brooke, on 27th June 1871.
The site for the Church in the townland of Tattenabuddagh was given by Sir Victor Brooke.
The money left by Revd Butler Brooke to build the Church, Rectory and School House, was in the region of £4500.
The Church was licensed for worship and consecrated by the Bishop of Kilmore on 28 October 1873.
