New Rector is instituted to Holy Trinity Parish, Dromore

The institution of the Revd William Boyce, as incumbent of Dromore Parish, by the Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd Dr. Ian Ellis, took place in Holy Trinity Church on Thursday, 17 October.

Clergy and readers from throughout Clogher Diocese as well as representatives of local church denominations attended the service in the church built in 1957.

The lessons were read by Mr Charles Kenwell, Hon. Treasurer; Mrs Valerie Bleakley, Rector’s Churchwarden and Canon John Woods, Rural Dean.

The sermon was preached by Revd Adrian Green, a chaplain in Ibiza and Formentera in the Diocese of Europe, who has just been appointed to the Parish of Ballywalter, Diocese of Down.

The hymns were; “All my hope on God is founded,” “May the mind of Christ my Saviour,” “Before the throne of God above,” “We love to sing below,” “Oh, to see the dawn of the darkest day,” “Be thou my vision,” and “My hope is built on nothing less.” The organists were Mrs Beatrice Keys and Mrs Lorna Thompson.

During the Act of Institution, Revd Boyce was introduced to the congregation and during the Commission, was escorted to meet members from the parish including Mr Robert Thompson, People’s Churchwarden at the open door; Mrs Eveline Smith, representing the Mothers’ Union at the Font; Theo Hardy, representing the youth of the parish at the prayer desk; Mr Clive Armstrong, representing the Church Lads Brigade at the pulpit and Mr. Gordon Deazley, Fields of Life Leader, at the Lord’s Table.

At the tea reception in the adjoining hall after the service, Revd William Boyce and his wife, Eleanor, were welcomed by a number of people including Revd Adrian Green, Mrs Valerie Bleakley, Rector’s Churchwarden on behalf of the parish; Mr. Steve McCarthy, a friend from Castlerock; Fr. Denis Dolan from Dromore Roman Catholic Church; Revd Eleanor Hayden from the local Methodist Church Circuit and Canon Robert Clarke from the neighbouring Church of Ireland parishes of Clanabogan and Edenderry.

Revd Boyce, replying, said he and his wife Eleanor had been very touched by their welcome and said they believe they had been called to Dromore Parish and were excited what God has in store for them.

Bishop Ian Ellis, concluding, said everyone could feel the warm welcome for Revd Boyce and his wife and he thanked everyone who had contributed to the institution and to those who helped to support the parish during the vacancy.

Revd Boyce had been Vicar of St Andrew’s Church, Puerto Pollensa, Majorca in the Diocese of Europe before taking up his new post.
A native of the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe, he grew up in Killowen Parish, Coleraine and worked as a roads engineer for 18 years before preparing for his ordination after which he served in Willowfield Parish and Bangor Abbey as well as being Rector in Mallusk.

He has undertaken missionary work in Nepal and his keen on encouraging lay involvement in church services.
