Some of the historic Church of Ireland buildings in Clogher Diocese will be open to the public for tours during this weekend’s European Heritage Open Days.

A new addition to the programme this year is St. John’s Parish Church, Fivemiletown, built originally in 1736 and further expanded.

St John’s will be open on Saturday, 14 September from 10am to 12noon and 2pm to 4pm as well as Sunday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm.

Following the building of the original church in 1736, the church was extended to double the seating, adding a gallery, raising the height of the building and extending the chancel in 1862.

The oldest grave in the grounds dates from 1728.

Three of the stained glass windows depict scenes from the life of Jesus; the Mothers’ Union window; the Montgomery Memorial Window and the Good Shepherd East Window.

St Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen is also opening its doors to the public this weekend and recently celebrated 400 years of worship on the present site.
