'A Winter's Tale' brings Christmas joy to congregations in Glaslough

 


The community choirs in St. Salvator's Church.

The annual performance of 'A Winter's Tale' in St. Salvator's Church, Glaslough took place on Monday and Tuesday, 18 and 19 December led by Revd Tim Irvine.

This event full of Christmas cheer, brought together the Donagh Community Choir, Donagh Parish Junior Choir and Cantari Donagh with pianist Gerard Toal and organist and conductor, Ethne McCord.

It also featured violinists, Ken Atkinson, George Watson and Orla Flack. On the Monday evening, there was a beautiful performance of Candle in the Window' with words and music by Jamie Duffy. On the Tuesday evening, the singer was Stephanie Jebb, accompanied by a recording by Jamie.

The evening began with the title piece, 'A Winter's Tale' followed by a series of well known and perhaps not so well known carols and Christmas songs.

The full capacity congregation on both nights joined in the singing of 'O Come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!' as well as 'Silent Night.'

There were two readings, 'It started with a Baby' by Jessica Coulter and 'A Christmas Childhood, a poem by Patrick Kavanagh read by Michael Fisher.

Mariann Gibbons sang a traditional Irish carol, 'The Wexford Carol.' while Diane and Gareth sang 'Mistletoe and Wine.'

The programme ended with 'A Christmas Blessing' by the choir.

Afterwards everyone followed piper, Wilson Jebb to Castle Leslie for mulled wine, coffee and mince pies.
