Church leaders mark Holocaust Memorial Day

The Church Leaders on Holocaust Day.

To mark this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day, the Church Leaders Group (Ireland) held a time of reflection as part of their meeting in Armagh this morning.

Pictured, from left, are Archbishop John McDowell, the Church of Ireland Primate of All Ireland; Archbishop Eamon Martin, the Roman Catholic Primate of All Ireland; the Revd David Nixon, the President of the Methodist Church in Ireland; Bishop Andrew Forster, the President of the Irish Council of Churches and Church of Ireland Bishop of Derry and Raphoe and the Rt Revd Dr John Kirkpatrick, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

Archbishop John McDowell is also featured in a video-recorded message of support for the day, Holocaust Memorial Day, Friday 27 February. It also shows the Church's support for the Jewish people and others who have suffered because of acts of genocide.

The video includes an interesting conversation between Archbishop John and Mrs Shirley Lennon, Northern Ireland Support Worker for the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.

The Trust encouraged people to put a candle in their window at 4.00pm on 27 January in memory.

More information on its work can be found on its website at www.hmd.org.uk

The video can be played on the Church of Ireland website.
