Christ Church, Trillick in Clogher Diocese has celebrated its 150th anniversary with a weekend of events.

The church was consecrated by the then Bishop of Clogher, and Primate of All Ireland, the Right Revd Marcus Gervais Beresford in 1873.

On Sunday evening, the present Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd Dr. Ian Ellis, was the preacher at a Service of Celebration in Christ Church, to mark the end of a successful 150th anniversary weekend.

The service was conducted by the Rector, Revd Philip Bryson and hymns included; “Be Still, for the presence of the Lord,” “Lord, the light of Your love is shining,” and “Lord, for the years Your love has kept and guided.” The Parish Reader, Mrs Linda Brunt, also participated.

On the Friday evening, the parish held a car treasure hunt followed by a barbecue and on Saturday, a Victorian Tea Party was held in the grounds of the church enjoying the pleasant sunny weather.

The history of the Parish Church in Trillick begins in 1856, with a will made by the late Henry Archdale Esq. in that year, in which he bequeathed and directed that the sum of £2,500 should be applied to endow and assist in building a church at Trillick.

Henry Archdale died in November 1856 and his nephew, Captain Mervyn Archdale who was always generous to the Church, built the Parish Church at Trillick, in accordance with his uncle’s will. It was licensed for divine worship by the Right Revd. Marcus Gervais Beresford, Primate of all Ireland and Lord Bishop of Clogher on December 9th 1872 and was consecrated to the Glory of God on April 6th 1873, by the then Primate who was also Lord Bishop of Clogher.

The first incumbent of the Parish was the Revd. Owen Handcock Phipps, M.A., who first appears in Parish records on December 8th 1872.
