Installation of Canon Maurice Armstrong
The Revd Canon Maurice Armstrong, Rector of Tempo and Clabby Parishes in the Diocese of Clogher, was installed as Prebendary of Tullycorbet by the Dean of Clogher, the Very Revd Kenneth Hall, at a service of Evening Prayer in the Cathedral Church of St Macartan, Clogher, on Sunday 4th March 2012, the Second Sunday of Lent.
Whilst continuing as Rector of Tempo and Clabby, Canon Armstrong will also serve as a Canon on the Chapter of St Macartan’s Cathedral Clogher and St Macartin’s Cathedral Enniskillen. In addition to these roles, Canon Armstrong is Rural Dean of Clogher and an Honorary Secretary of Diocesan Council and Diocesan Synod.
The preacher at the service was the Revd Canon Robert Riddel, a former Prebendary of Tullycorbet and also a former Rural Dean of Clogher and Rector of Fivemiletown.
The singing by the large congregation in attendance was led by the organist, Mr Glenn Moore, together with the combined choirs of Augher, Clabby, Clogher Cathedral, Newtownsaville and Tempo. The Verger was Mr John Hull and the Bell Ringer was Mr William Thompson.
The processional hymn was the well known hymn by Henry Francis Lyte, Praise, my soul, the King of heaven.
The mandate for the appointment was read by the Diocesan Registrar, the Revd Canon John Stewart, after which the Dean installed Canon Armstrong in the prebendal stall of Tullycorbet.
After the singing of Psalm 135, the first reading from Isaiah chapter 64 was read by Mr Don Williamson, People’s Churchwarden of Tempo Parish. This was followed by the hymn version of the canticle Cantate Domino, Sing to God new songs of worship.
The second reading from 2nd Corinthians chapter 4 was read by Mr Ian Adams, Rector’s Churchwarden of Clabby Parish. This was followed by the hymn version of the canticle Magnificat, Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord.
The prayers were led by the Precentor, the Revd Canon Noel Regan and the Revd Alistair Warke, Diocesan Curate in Clogher and Enniskillen Cathedrals.
Other hymns included In Christ alone, Be thou my vision, and Hear the call of the Kingdom.
The blessing was pronounced by the Bishop, the Rt Revd John McDowell, and the final hymn was O Jesus, I have promised.
Everyone was invited for refreshments after the service during which speeches were made by the Dean, Canon Armstrong and the Bishop.
