Clogher Diocesan Mothers' Union - Prayer Breakfast
On Saturday 18 February, 257 ladies AND a small number of brave gentlemen, came to the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen for a Prayer Breakfast, organised by the Mothers’ Union in Clogher Diocese.
Geraldine Beattie welcomed everyone and thanked the members of the Faith and Policy Unit for organising the Breakfast.
The Speaker , Myrtle Kerr, was introduced by the Co-Ordinator of the Faith and Policy Unit, Muriel Treacy. Myrtle is the widow of the Rev Cecil Kerr, together they had formed the Christian Renewal Centre at Rostrevor in 1974. There, through all the unrest, a ministry of reconciliation was carried out to the community, and further afield.
The Mothers Union Theme for 2012 is Your Gift - Discover and Celebrate. Myrtle formed her talk around the word “Gift”. What was the most important gift? That of course, being Jesus Christ. In the first part of her talk Myrtle shared memories of her husband being diagnosed with alzheimers disease and the affect it had on both their lives. However, they both got the grace to cope until Myrtle was unable to nurse Cecil at home as he required full time nursing.
For the second part of her talk Myrtle spoke about the Samaritan woman who met Jesus and received the Gift of Eternal Life from him. Her testimony led others to recognise that Jesus “really is the Saviour of the world”. The Bible passage was read by the Vice-President, Valerie Stewart.
The Prayers and hymns were lead by the Chaplain, Canon John Stewart and the piano played by Dr Margaret Knox.
At the end of the meeting, Dr Knox thanked Myrtle for her interesting talk and welcomed her back to Fermanagh, she had taken a quiet day in 2001. She also said how pleased everyone was to have Geraldine back after her very major heart surgery. She presented both ladies with a gift.
Muriel Treacy thanked Valerie Stewart for organising the Breakfast and she, too, was presented with a gift.
