REPRESENTING THE PEOPLE: THE CHURCH AND POLITICS

An interesting and informative event was held recently at Colebrooke Park, the home of Viscount Brookeborough when two prominent Church of Ireland members of Clogher Diocese shared with clergy and readers from across the diocese their experiences of life in the political arena.
Viscount Alan Brookeborough and Arlene Foster MLA, Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, both active members of St Ronan’s Parish, Colebrooke, County Fermanagh also answered questions from the floor on issues such as the creationism versus evolution debate, the cost and size of local government and the church’s relationship with the Orange Order. The evening was chaired by Canon Trevor Gillian, Rector of the Aghalurcher Group which includes Colebrooke church. The bishop of Clogher, the Rt Revd Dr Michael Jackson drew the evening to a close with some conclusions and thanks.
