Second Successful Dromore 10K - 19 June 2010
The Dromore (County Tyrone) Community 10K and 5K Run & Walk took place
on Saturday 19th June 2010. Like 2009 the weather was on our side although
maybe a little hot for some! Official title sponsor was Humac Engineering
while the local charities were Alzheimer's NI and the MS Society.
This year’s run was organized due to the huge success of the 2009
run, that helped raise funds for the Holy Trinity Church Dromore "Fields
of Life team" to Build a school in Uganda, the team of 8 men are going
to Uganda on July 27th.
Though this year the Rector, the Revd Bryan Martin opted out of the 10k
race, and joined the 5k fun run, maybe showing signs he's heading towards
a mile-stone birthday! A spokesperson from the run committee said “although
Revd Bryan is moving to another parish, it would be just great to see him
and his family back at the 2011 Dromore 10k and 5k fun run, which is already
being organized.”
Over 622 people actually finished the race while there was just short of
700 entries in total - a great credit to the small team working on this event
all year.
Omagh Harriers led the way with Steven Duncan winning the 10K well ahead
of the rest of the field, despite having the Lisburn Half Marathon in his
legs from Monday night. He finished in 31.27 and clinched the £200
prize money up for grabs. He was followed by Pius McIntyre in 36.13 while
Conor Carroll was third in 37.18.
Julie Butler from Omagh Harriers was first lady home in 39.41 followed by
Pauline McGurran (40.46) with Haxel McCausland in third.
The 5K winner was Conor Moore who just beat Mark McBearty to the line. First
girl was Sara Moore while Edel Monaghan took second.
A huge crowd gathered in the small town with plenty to entertain the crowds
including a DJ, bouncy castle and some Disney characters who actually ran
the race!
