Annual Scout and Guide Service

On Sunday 9th May 2010, members of Girlguiding UK and the Scouts from throughout County Fermanagh gathered in Enniskillen for the annual Scout and Guide parade. Following the parade the junior members attended a service in Darling Street Methodist Church, whilst the senior members attended their annual service in St Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen. The Revd Betty Thompson welcomed a packed Cathedral congregation to the service, with particular welcome to members of the Scouts and Guides, and special guests Mrs Lizzie Hogg, Girlguiding Ulster Deputy Chief Commissioner, and Mr Wilfred Mulryne OBE, Northern Ireland Chief Commissioner of the Scouts.
The worship was led by the m-Blaze praise band from Rossorry Parish Church, under the direction of Mrs Catherine Irwin, Girlguiding County Commissioner. During the service Mrs Sue Hogg, Girlguiding County President spoke about the Girlguiding UK centenary. The first reading was read by a representative of the Scouts, and the second reading was read by Rebecca Carson of Maguiresbridge Guides. A lively and engaging sermon was delivered by the Revd Kyle Hanlon, Rector of Fivemiletown Parish, who spoke on the subject of “heroes”.
The Act of dedication included the reading of the Guide and Scout Laws, which were led by Lauren Hetherington of Tempo Guides Senior Section and Lisa Foster of Lisbellaw Scouts. This was followed by the renewal of promises during which all Brownies, Cubs, Guides and Scouts present were invited to renew their Promises. The prayers of intercession were led by Jessica Long of Tempo Brownies, Jonathan McVey of Lisbellaw Cub Scouts, Rachael McClure of Monea Guides and Marcus Crawford of Lisbellaw Scouts, and the collection taken up during the service was in aid of Horizon West, the Fermanagh Children’s Hospice. To conclude the service, the Blessing was sung by Andrew Irwin of Derrygonnelly Scouts.
