Statement and Prayer from the Bishop of Clogher and the Bishop of Kilmore,
Elphin & Ardagh on the Quinn Group Situation
From the Rt Revd Dr Michael Jackson, Bishop of Clogher, and the Rt Revd Ken
Clarke, Bishop of Kilmore, Elphin & Ardagh:
‘We wish to express our deep concern for all those affected most immediately
by the continuing operational difficulties of the Quinn Group. We are conscious
that in the geographical area which forms the dioceses of us both, many individuals
and families stand to lose their livelihoods in the immediate future. In voicing
our concern we also wish to express solidarity with everyone within the Quinn
Group and beyond whose lives have been caused distress by the serious train
of events. We are conscious also of the many other people whose lives and livelihoods
are jeopardized because of the alarming change in circumstances.
We encourage clergy throughout parishes in our dioceses to pray at Sunday
services for all whose lives are affected by the change of fortunes in the
Quinn Group, which is so large and valued an employer throughout our area.
Suggested prayer:
We pray for all the people of our Dioceses at this time. We pray especially
for those affected by the recent developments in the Quinn Group. We pray for
all involved in the administration of the present situation; the employees
and their families at this time of anxiety and uncertainty. We pray for all
those who have lost their jobs and for the creation of new jobs; God of justice
and God of hope, we thank you for hearing our prayer. In the name of Jesus
Christ our Lord, Amen.’
