Parish Treasurer Retires after 36 years of service
Mr John Entwistle, who recently retired as Honorary Treasurer of Magheraculmoney
Parish, is pictured with his wife Valerie, when John’s significant contribution
to the life of this North Fermanagh parish was recognised at the morning service
last Sunday. John and Valerie came to the village of Kesh forty-three years
ago when John took up the position of Assistant Manager in the local Northern
Bank. Before long they joined Magheraculmoney Parish Church at Ardess, a short
distance from Kesh, where John’s financial skills were soon put to good
use by the then rector, the Revd Canon R.J. Doonan, who encouraged John to
take on the treasurer’s position in the parish, a move which proved to
be both wise and fortunate.
Having given his final Annual Financial Report to the recent General Easter
Vestry, John announced his intention to retire from the position, giving him
more time to focus on other aspects of the church’s life and ministry.
John was presented with a token of appreciation on behalf of the parish and
Select Vestry by Mr Alan Spence, People’s Churchwarden, and Valerie was
presented with a bouquet of flowers by Mrs Joan Armstrong, People’s Glebewarden.
Speaking at the presentation, the Revd Henry Blair spoke with gratitude on
behalf of the whole parish about the dedicated and diligent service which John
gave to the Church over his thirty-six years as treasurer, and also expressed
thanks to Valerie, whom he described as “one of those even better women
who is behind every good man!” Having served under four incumbents, John
is certainly regarded as a key contributor towards the smooth running of the
parish over many years. In conclusion Revd Blair thanked John for his invaluable
service, wishing both John and Valerie every blessing in the years which lie
ahead.
