Bishop of Clogher in Denmark for Holy Week
Bishop of Clogher in Denmark for Holy Week
In December 2009 the Danish Church decided to sign the Porvoo Common Statement.
From this emerged an invitation from the Reverend Michael Westh to the Bishop
of Clogher, the Rt Revd Dr Michael Jackson, to preach in Roskilde, near Copenhagen,
during Holy Week. Bishop Jackson is the first Irish bishop to be invited to
participate in the worshipping life of the Church of Denmark, and has delivered
a series of sermons whilst in Denmark, entitled ‘text messages for Holy
Week'.
Revd Wesht is a member of the Anglo-Nordic-Baltic Theological Consultation
which Bishop Jackson now chairs. It was established in 1929 and in many ways
paved the way for Porvoo.
During his time in Denmark, Bishop Jackson visited the Pastoral Seminary of
the Church of Denmark in Copenhagen, meeting with the Dean and students, he
also met with Bishop Peter Fischer-Moeller and a number of local clergy. Also
in addition to his preaching schedule, he visited the Faculty of Theology,
Department of Systematic and Practical Theology, and met with those ministering
to the National Hospital.
