Revd Elaine Dunne nominated as rector of Ballybay Group of Parishes

A new rector has been appointed to the Ballybay Group of Parishes to include Ballybay, Clontibret and Muckno in Co. Monaghan in Clogher Diocese.

Revd Elaine Dunne, currently priest in charge of the Omey Union of Parishes in the Diocese of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, has been selected following a Board of Nomination.

The Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd John McDowell said: “I am delighted to be able to welcome the Revd Elaine Dunne to the Diocese and to the Ballybay Group in Co. Monaghan. I would like to thank all the members of the Board of Nomination for working so well together in making this nomination.

“The Revd Elaine has experience of working in Dublin and in the West of Ireland and will bring that experience as well as her many skills and qualifications to this new sphere of vocation. I know she will be welcomed by the people of Ballybay, Clontibret and Muckno when she arrives in early summer”

Revd Dunne stated: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Rector of the Grouped Parishes of Ballybay, Clontibret and Muckno. I am very much looking forward to getting to know all of the parishioners and to embarking on the next stage of my spiritual journey, as well as embracing the new opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.”

Prior to her ordination, Revd Dunne was a full-time student at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, and also at the Irish School of Ecumenics (T.C.D.).

Following her training at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, she was ordained in
2005 and she has worked as curate-assistant in the Grouped Parishes of Castleknock and Mulhuddart with Clonsilla and as assistant-priest in the Grouped Parishes of Santry, Glasnevin and Finglas, both of which are in the Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough.

She is currently Priest-in-Charge of Omey Union of Parishes in north-west Connemara in the Dioceses of Tuam, Killala and Achonry

She was appointed a Clerical Vicar of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, in 2006.

Revd Dunne, in her spare time, enjoys working with children and teenagers and she has gained valuable experience working with young people of various ages and backgrounds in many different settings. In addition, since her ordination she has particularly enjoyed working with children and teenagers in a faith context and undertaken a number of courses related to youth work and youth ministry.

With an involvement with the Scouts movement since she was a teenager and a leader for over 15 years, she has volunteered to be part of the “Faith and Beliefs” team at the forthcoming European Scout Jamboree which will be held in Gdańsk, Poland, this summer. She is looking forward to this venture.

The Service of Institution of Revd Elaine Dunne will take place on Thursday, 4th June 2020 at 7.30pm in St. Colman’s Parish Church, Clontibret, Co. Monaghan
