The Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd Dr Ian Ellis stated; ‘The deaths of two teenage schoolgirls in a car crash in Co. Monaghan yesterday is dreadful news and will be an overwhelming loss to their families. The shock will be profoundly felt by the Largy College school community and all in the wider Clones and Co. Monaghan area. That they were travelling together and looking forward to an evening of joy and celebration with their school friends makes this loss of life so much more dreadful to bear.
'My prayers and I know the prayers of all in the Clones community and beyond will be with the bereaved families, the school leaders and pupils. We pray too for those who have been seriously injured and are being treated in hospital’.
The Rector of the Church of Ireland Parish of Clones, Revd Roy Taylor, who is also a member of Largy College Board of Management commented: ‘The Church of Ireland congregations in Clones, Currin, Killeevan and Newbliss would also like to extend their own special condolences to the families of the two youngsters who lost their lives last night. In our small and tight-knit rural community, tragedy like this touches every one of us, regardless of faith or background, and we send our prayers and best wishes to the families and friends of all those involved in the accident as well as to the staff of the wonderful school where these young people were so cherished and nurtured. Our hearts go out to them all’.
