The Season of Advent in Clogher Diocese is always special and this year there were many church events to mark the occasion.

The Clogher Diocesan Carol Service took place on Advent Sunday, 27th November in The Priory Church, Killadeas.

Hosted by the Rector, the Revd Mark Gallagher, the service was also attended by Bishop Ian Ellis and Dean Kenneth Hall.

The choir sang a number of Advent Carols and special arrangements including Matin Responsory (Palestrina). The organist was Mrs. Joan Nelson.

The lessons were read by Iris Deane, Ella Deane, Glenn Moore, Stephanie Black, Hazel Moore, Barbara Somerville and Dean Kenneth Hall.

Revd Gallagher lit the Advent Wreath and the Bishop gave the blessing.

Another special event held over two nights was “A Winter’s Tale” hosted by St. Salvator’s Church, Glaslough and led by the Revd Tim Irvine on Monday and Tuesday, 19th and 20th December.

This event featured the Donagh Community Choir and Donagh Parish Junior Choir conducted by Ethne McCord and Cantari Donagh conducted by Geraldine Casey.

Accompanists included Ken Atkinson and George Watson, the flautist was Jamie Duffy; accordion player was Noreen Boyle and the piper was Wilson Jebb.

This special performance featured some traditional and other seasonal hymns and songs as well as readings.

There was a tremendous atmosphere in the church as the lights dimmed and the radiance of the faces of the choir members reflected the joy of the occasion.

Halfway through each evening, there was the arrival of Santa Claus, giving out presents to those who took part.

Following the singing of “A Christmas Blessing,” the congregation walked along a path lit up by Christmas lights to Castle Leslie for mulled wine, tea and coffee and mince pies.
