Proposed visit to Chile in July 2006

PSA 06 (Project South America)

During the last four years the Clogher Diocesan youth Council in the northern end of the Diocese has worked under the name and aim of J1-Jesus first. The youth council is funded in part from the central grant received from the Church of Ireland Youth Department. We are aiming to have members from all of the Parishes in the area which we represent and to date there are 26 members who dedicate their time to this ministry. Due to the widespread support from many Parishes and young people there have been three very successful and meaningful Diocesan Youth weekends in the Share Centre in Lisnaskea. The Diocesan Youth choir and band have contributed to the praise in a number of Parishes and events, limited only by the seasonal restraint of exams.

On Palm Sunday we launched our plans to take 16 young people and 4 leaders to visit a church in Chile, with the support and guidance of SAMS Ireland. Joyce Clingan has been appointed by the J1 Diocesan Youth Council to prepare and lead this team of young people and adults to San Pedro church in Vina Del Mar in Chile, South America, for 4 weeks in July 2006, for a programme of outreach through street theatre, mime, teaching and hopefully some practical work. We hope that the team will be made up of 16 individuals over 18 years and 4/6 individuals aged over 30yrs.

Perhaps this trip is for you, to help you in your Christian life and to allow others in a Diocesan team to benefit from your gifts, talents and fellowship. We are aiming to give preference to those who:

1. belong to a Parish in Clogher Diocese

2. have a Christian faith and are willing to share it with others

3. have an interest in learning simple street theatre i.e. mime, drama, singing

The team should have a balance of males and females, and a number of places will be reserved for those who have not had the opportunity of an overseas team experience. The team will be accompanied by a translator provided by SAMS and a minister from Clogher Diocese.

Two training and preparation weekends have been planned for all successful applicants. There is the possibility that Spanish classes will be offered locally for any wanting to brush up on their holiday Spanish!

Application forms have been sent to all Rectors and details are also in this month’s magazine. Contact: Joyce Clingan or Kyle Hanlon

This years J1 weekend is on Fri 25-Sun 27 November, in the Share Centre, Lisnaskea.
