ARMENIAN BISHOP TO VISIT CLOGHER IN YEAR OF CELEBRATIONS

Bishop Nathan, Primate of the Armenian Church of Great Britain, is to visit the Diocese of Clogher during 2006 when the diocese marks the fifteen hundredth anniversary of Macartan.

Bishop Nathan was born in Yerevan, Armenia and graduated in music before studying and teaching theology in Holy Etchmiazin in Armenia. Ordained in 1988, Bishop Nathan became the first Primate of the Ukraine in 1997 and Primate of the Armenian Church of Great Britain in 2000. He visited Ireland in November to mark the 90th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide at the invitation of the Church of Ireland Committee for Christian Unity.

Bishop Nathan will spend Saturday January 21st in St Macartan’s College, Monaghan (on right-hand side of N2, leaving Monaghan Town for Aughnacloy) at the invitation of Bishop Duffy and Bishop Jackson. During the day, he will explore with us key aspects of Armenian prayer and spirituality. Among other things this will convey something of the contribution which Christianity has made to the self-understanding of the Armenian people and their endurance of persecution and suffering throughout their history. There will also be an opportunity for those who attend to discuss informally ways of prayer appropriate to contemporary life and to everyday circumstances.

The day begins at 10.30 a.m. and includes lunch for all participants. There is no charge for the day. It concludes with a meditation led by Bishop Nathan at 3.00 p.m.
