The Church of Ireland

Diocese of Clogher

Ordination in St. Patrick’s, Monaghan

The preacher, the Very Reverend Herbert Cassidy, Dean of Armagh, in his sermon encouraged both new priests to keep before them in life and ministry the vision of God’s glory seen by the prophet Isaiah. As the year of Isaiah’s vision was an historic year, so also is the year 2005 for both clergy, Dean Cassidy said.

Friends, family members and well-wishers came from near and far to support the ordained. Civic and religious members of the wider community of Monaghan were also present to lend their support. Arrangements for the Service of Ordination were made by the Reverend Ian Berry, Rector of Monaghan. The Service was conducted by the Right Reverend Michael Jackson, Bishop of Clogher.

On the evening of Wednesday, May 18th two clergy in the Diocese of Clogher were ordained to the priesthood in St Patrick’s Church Monaghan. The Reverend Henry Blair serves as curate-assistant in the Monaghan and Donagh Groups of Parishes and the Reverend Ian Linton serves as curate-assistant in St Macartin’s Cathedral Parish Enniskillen. This is the first time in thirty years that two Church of Ireland clergy have been ordained to the priesthood at the same time in Clogher Diocese.
