Installation of Chancellor takes place during Clogher Diocesan Advent Carol Service

 

The Clogher Diocesan Advent Carol Service was held in St. Macartan’s Cathedral, Clogher on Sunday evening, 2nd December, 2018, the First Sunday of Advent.

The service included the Installation of Revd Canon David Skuce as Chancellor in the Chapter of Clogher.

The Mandate and Installation of Canon Skuce was led by the Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd John McDowell and the Dean of Clogher, the Very Revd Kenneth Hall.

The Service of lessons and carols included readings by representatives from various parishes including Mr. Colin Brownsmith from Inishmacsaint; Mr. Chris Treacy from Monaghan Group, Revd Ngozi Njoku from Garrison Group; Mr. William Morrow from Fivemiletown and Kiltermon; Mrs. Ethne McCord from Donagh Group; Miss Joyce Clingan from Galloon Group and Revd Olivia Downey, Rector of St. Macartan’s Cathedral.

The hymns and carols included “O come, O come, Emmanuel,” “Waken, O sleeper, wake and rise,” “Come, thou long-expected Jesus,” “On Jordan’s bank the Baptist’s cry,” “Make way, make way, for Christ the King,” “Hail to the Lord’s anointed” and “Lo! he comes with clouds descending.”

Two anthems, “Like a candle flame” and “Lights to the world” were sung by the combined choirs of the Clogher Cathedral Group of Parishes. The organist was Mrs Diane Simpson.

Among those attending were Canons of the Cathedral Chapter as well Diocesan and Parish Readers as well as visiting clergy including Father Jimmy McPhillips. The congregation included a large number of parishioners from across the Diocese.

The collection was taken up for the Northern Ireland Hospice.
