MU Information Evening for Younger Women

A short time ago the MU Branches of Derryvullen South, Garvary, Derrybrusk, Lisbellaw and Maguiresbridge held an Information Evening for younger women who were not members of the MU. The event was held in the Killyhevlin Hotel. Eighteen young women came along and the Bishop attended.

The evening began with a fork supper and continued with Valerie Stewart explaining what the MU were involved in at Branch and Diocesan level. This was followed by the Young Families Contact, Barbara Clark, informing them of a Young Families weekend which is held each year in the Republic of Ireland. This weekend is subsidised by the diocese and branch concerned. We then had a speaker, Michelle from Women's Aid who explained their involvement with women and children who are in violent relationships. The MU in the diocese provides "overnight" bags to help those concerned who perhaps have to leave home very quickly without belongings.

We are hoping to have a follow-up in the autumn, this time held in Maguiresbridge Parish - a curry or dessert night or something similar - details to be decided! We will be inviting the ladies from the parishes who were not able to come to the last get-together.

From this we hope to have many new young members.
